Autism New Zealand's key activities include raising awareness of autism spectrum disorders, providing support, information and advice. This includes gathering and distributing the latest information and research relating to autism spectrum and related disorders. Autism New Zealand does this by maintaining contact with overseas associations. They will arrange seminars and conferences and provide training courses for parents and professionals. They will also liaise with other agencies on behalf of individuals, parents and other family.
Autism New Zealand resources and maintains a library service and information can be accessed by contacting their Information Officer. This person is based at their national office in Christchurch. They also produce a quarterly newsletter and have a website that provides full details on services available and contact people in each of the regions. An Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) can occur as a result of strokes, tumours and other medical problems including drug and alcohol abuse. A Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) occurs when damage is caused to the brain by an external force such as in a car accident, assault or sporting accident. TBI's are commonly covered by ACC. The most common TBI is concussion. BIANZ employs Liaison Officers and Education Advisors.

Specialist support groups that cater specifically for the needs of men, women or spouses and carers. Assistance and advocacy support in liaising with ACC, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social Development, Work & Income and other government or associated agencies. Information or assistance to obtain the appropriate professional help or service. Various social activities are run throughout the year, for example, picnics, pot luck dinners and games evenings. Through your regional association you may be able to access Outward Bound courses, camps and sponsored holiday accommodation.

We are a kaupapa Maori organisation mandated by local Iwi to provide support services to whanau, individuals and the wider community. Caters for students with multiple profound disabilities and those who are medically fragile. We are a school of inclusive practices - education as appropriate in the least restrictive environments. Whanganui Disability Resource Centre
We offer a free Disability Information Service which is open to anybody and to any organisation, and a free Supported Employment Service which people may self refer to, or be referred to. This includes Transition support for students transitioning from school. We also provide an Equipment Loan Service and Sales of Aids and Equipment. We cover Whanganui, Rangitikei and Ruapehu districts and South Taranaki.

Wilson Centre
The Wilson Centre for children is a child disability service of Waitemata DHB. The Wilson Centre provides family-centred rehabilitation services for children aged 0-16 years (or while still at school) with neurological or orthopaedic problems. Rehabilitation programmes are tailored to meet the individual needs of the child or young person, and may include inpatient, day patient or outpatient options. Rehabilitation programmes may involve nurses, occupational therapists, speech language therapists, play specialists, social workers, clinical neuropsychologists, and a Maori Liaison Advisor. Facilities include gardens, purpose built playground, hydrotherapy pool, rehabilitation school classroom, and parent accommodation.
The Wilson Centre also offers free respite services for families of children aged 0-16 years with high support needs. Children are cared for in a safe, professional and fun environment while families take time out to recharge their batteries. Planned stays may include day stays, overnight weekdays, weekends and school holidays. 24 hour care is provided by nurses and healthcare assistants.
