Employment and vocational training for people with disabilities

Association of Supported Employment in New Zealand
Provide a high profile forum for the promotion, establishment and development of Supported Employment Services for people with disabilities in New Zealand, through information, networking, research and policy advocacy.

EDGE Employment
EDGE Employment provides excellent employment solutions through partnership
and support for all who use our service.
EDGE Employment ­ is an employment service specifically designed to meet the
needs of people who experience mental illness who are wanting work.

Kaleidoscope
A Christchurch based programme that works with people with spinal injuries. Assists with career planning, support in the workplace and networking with the local business community.

Mainstream Employment Programme
A two-year, subsidised employment programme for people with significant disabilities. The programme is provided by the State Services Commission and aims to assist participants into meaningful, long-term employment within selected State sector organisations.

Mary Moodie Respite Care Charitable Trust
We have vacancies for respite care for children and young people with Intellectual Disabilities over the Christmas school holiday period of 2007-2008. If anyone is interested please contact Carla Manson on (03) 338 0252.

New Zealand Federation of Vocational and Support Service Inc (VASS)
VASS supports and works on behalf of organisations who provide employment, training and support services for people with disabilities. They can also provide individuals with information about vocational services.

Workbridge New Zealand
An employment service for employers and employees. Includes information on funding relating to disabilities in the workplace.


The law relating to employment of people with disabilities

Unlawful discrimination
Provides education on human rights, discrimination, and dispute resolution. If you believe you have been discriminated against, you can ask the Human Rights Commission for assistance.

Membership-based organisation encouraging the implementation of EEO principles and best practice. Provides information, research, resources and advice on all aspects of EEO and diversity.

Commissioned by the Working Party on Employment and Training Policies for People with Disabilities (1991).

The Jobs Letter
Extensive information on employment: training, policies, and trends. Provides information on disabilities and employment dating from 1994.

The Sickness and Invalids Benefit Strategy
The Ministry of Social Development's Sickness and Invalids' Benefits Strategy includes supporting people who want to move into employment. The new service will be delivered through Work and Income and clients are advised to speak to their Case Manager for more information.
